Dell OptiPlex GX280 - igfxsrvc.exe - program too big to fit into memory. Jump to solution. The drivers from the disc are for Windows XP and not 7. Ok, that other day after i logged onto the laptop, i get a command prompt window saying 'Program too big to fit in memory'. Help!
I bought a new AMD 3.0 GHz 64 bit processor, with 1 GB of RAM running Windows XP professional SP1. Ram usage is usually around 700MB.I use the DIVx Calculater to calculate optimum bitrates for DIVx files. After getting the PC, i found out, that I cannot run the executable. Size of the Executable is 373 Kb. The program itself is tiny and ran on my previous (1.4 gb, with 256 MB ram) machine without any problems.Everytime i run it, i get a dos window saying 'Program too big to fit in memory'.Im stumped.
Will someone give me a clue how to solve this problem. I wonder if there already are WinXP 64bit out there? Havn't checked that yet.Don't presume the retailer did all for you. Even if he did, you will have to perform this kind of maintenance on a regular basis.
There may always be faults or incompatibilities in drivers, so you should download and install latest chipset, AGP steering, video and other drivers at least once per 2 months (more frequent is better). The only thing you don't -have- to do, is update BIOS - check what new BIOSes offer, and then -decide- whether you will benefit from it or not.Glenn. The XP is 32 bit. I have the 64bit ver( beta) on cd, but never installed it.
THeres a nother problem which i guess is linked to the original one. I installed a program for which ive lost the manula (and the CD Key). I got a key gen from the net. It comes in a zip file. On the other machine, i can run the keygen from within the zip file. But on this one.

Absolutely nothing happens. I cant run the file. If i try extracting it, still nothing happens.Im completely frustrated here. ANd the retailer has no clue why this should be happening.rbkumaran Did the pagesys thing. THe machine is a little smoother now, but the problem still persists.Glenn Ill check up on the the drivers and update the if necessary. My Mem usage is 300-400MB.

U were right. The 700MB thing was the PF usage. One more thing, i was looking throught some folders, on an old harddisk, when my PC suddenly went on a stand still. Explorer.exe was using the Whole of the CPU (99). I killed the process, logged out and back in again and eveything was fine.
Hi all,I know this subject has been brought up several times before, but noneof the solutions offered so far worked for me. =( Well, basically Iget a 'Program too big to fit in memory' error every time I try to runa fairly large DOS EXE (larger than 1 MB or so).
Small DOS EXE's workjust fine. I think that's a bit strange, I mean for example theinstall EXE for VisualRoute is only about 1.5 MB. That's not THATmuch, is it?
Yet it refuses to run on my system (Windows XP withoutany service packs). Other programs such as the install EXE for theOpera7 web browser (file size = about 11 MB or so) cause the sameerror message in the DOS prompt. The thing is the exact same EXE'sused to run just fine on my old Windows 98 system, and I had only halfthe memory that I have now (256 MB as opposed to 512 MB on my XPcomputer).
I tried all the compatibility modes and memory settings, Ifiddled with the autoexec.nt and config.nt files, I've been to dozensof competent support forums - NOTHING did the trick. My very sanity isat stake, pleaeeeeese help me!!Regards,MarkusDeuce09.03.03 13:27.
